1st Grade Journey

We are starting to homeschool Aleli this year in the 1st grade level. Since she had attended Aug- Oct a regular school she had completed the first-nine week objectives, taken exams at the regular school. She had taken several spelling tests, reading comprehension and vocabulary tests. We just started homeschooling this first week of November 2010. We will continue with the spelling words she was learning at the regular school and reviewing them. She will continue developing a 1st grade reading log where we document the books she is reading. We will continue reviewing her math facts and sight words. She has done many activities this week. Friday  has included Art and Music activities to supplement her education. We also on Thursday started to reinforce the Spanish sight words. There are 70 and we are using the book by Nick Jr -Dora Hola Hello for this lesson. The objective is for her to learn the words , identify them, write them and read them in the book. I have been reading her the book Wen,Thur and today. The book shows also the words in English. This is for her to learn to read, write in both languages. She had also completed this week the "baggie books" from her former school. She read 4 books to me. She also wrote down the months of the year and wrote the sight words/spelling words too. This blog will be a portfolio of all the lessons we explore and the work she completes. This is a blog of learning outside the "box" and suggestions of lessons to try at your own home too.
